Normal political discourse, including, and especially what’s heard in the main stream media, has proven to be mostly useless and even counter productive. Commentary is typically skewed to represent the interests of the corporations that own the public media. Election coverage concentrates almost entirely on the “horse race” or on the perceived personalities of the candidates, with little attention paid to the issues or whether what the candidates are saying is true or feasible. The “common wisdom” of the day, including what is spewed forth by the political pundits, rarely represents the attitudes and opinions of everyday Americans and it’s wisdom is debatable at best.
If we can hope to take back this country and make our government work for us, the issues that affect us all– war, the economy, out sourcing of jobs etc– must be discussed openly and rationally. It has to be understood that the debate isn’t about liberal versus conservative, Democrat versus Republican, but rather what works to the advantage of most Americans.
This is of course, a huge undertaking. There are many bloggers and grass roots activists who are and have been working tirelessly towards these goals and it is my intention, with this blog, to add whatever I can to help.
