I think once again the "Know Nothings" are running the asylum in the Republican camp and MUST constantly reframe the vast (and embarrassing) intellectual (and "age" and "hipness" and "modern") contrast between the candidates as something unattractive.

I'm still shaking my head that the R's have McCain as a candidate in the first place. It's insane. The only conclusion I can draw is that he is really just a figurehead and they have to get *someone* in there with an "R" behind his name so that they can protect the status quo and have at least another four years to bury the bodies, burn the evidence and hide the money.

Meanwhile, I think the greatest form of dissent would be to continually contrast, in a realistic way, the differences between candidates - and get past this FunHouse full of mirrors.

Those writers/bloggers with an audience need to remind everyone how stupid McCain is (and how stupid Dubya is), and how anti-intellectualism has the potential to destroy our nation, and not for the first time.

Peace.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('435','loretta','I think once again the \"Know Nothings\" are running the asylum in the Republican camp and MUST constantly reframe the vast (and embarrassing) intellectual (and \"age\" and \"hipness\" and \"modern\") contrast between the candidates as something unattractive. \r\n\r\nI\'m still shaking my head that the R\'s have McCain as a candidate in the first place.
@Tom Weiner - Scary indeed. Barack has disappointed many times during this campaign (though his appearance in this forum isn't one of them), but the prospect of a McCain presidency is too frightening for words, especially with a Democratic Congress such as we have. Barack must win.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('430','Paul Wilden','<a href=\'#comment-429\' rel=\"nofollow\">@Tom Weiner<\/a> - Scary indeed.
Well said, Paul. I fear, as I am guessing you do, that we still live in a country, despite almost 8 years of simplistic analysis of virtually every issue and actions predicated on such an analysis, where a majority of those who vote are tragically susceptible to the appeal of such thinking. Plus, I am hearing/reading many progressives who are constantly chiding Obama for even appearing on such programs as the one you've written about, seemingly forgetting that not only is not voting for Barak a vote for McCain, but that we have barely endured the worst presidency in our history and McCain wants to perpetuate (or worsen) what the Bush administration has left us...Scary?!?
